CBSNews.com is seeking a senior politics editor to help steer our digital coverage at night. They will drive our breaking political coverage in the evening hours and will work with writers, reporters, correspondents and other digital contributors on quick-turn and longer-term stories across the vertical.

The senior editor should also have experience making strategic, data-informed decisions and managing projects in a digital newsroom. Scrupulous attention to detail, a cool head under pressure, and excellent communication skills are essential. The hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 3p-11p ET, and the job requires at least 2 days a week in the office. You will be expected to work some holidays and shift your schedule as needed. DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES: React quickly to breaking news, writing and publishing articles and running live blogs. Commission politics stories and field politics pitches for the website, editing writers and providing feedback. Coordinate, produce and update web coverage of news content, capturing the latest information from a variety of sources, always being mindful of CBS News standards. Edit captions and publish videos as needed; ensure videos are incorporated in published stories, and find opportunities for showcasing live streams in articles on developing content. Apply CBS News standards, style, and digital editing guidelines. Help lead all aspects of longer-term editorial projects. Track content performance via analytics tools to help inform your decision-making. Optimize all stories for search. Send push alerts and breaking emails as needed. Assist other verticals with breaking news coverage as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: At least 4 years in a digital breaking news environment. You’re a skilled writer and editor who loves mentoring others to improve their copy. Understanding of and experience implementing standard methodologies for editorial SEO. You have a deep knowledge of U.S. politics. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Hiring Salary Range: $100,000.00 - 115,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
