The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and / or step at appointment. A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,329 - $74,576.

The Department of German at UC Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach German courses in the following areas : Reading and Composition (first- and second-year undergraduate writing courses in English on German topics) Upper-level courses in translation and multilingualism, German literature, and contemporary Germany (e.g. migration, nationalism, media, and popular culture) In addition to instruction, general duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi and assignments, writing and grading exams, and grading and commenting on papers. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Additional qualifications (required at time of start) For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The Department is unable to provide a visa / work permit. Preferred qualifications Native or near-native fluency in German and English. College level teaching experience in the U.S. For language instruction : Demonstrated excellence in teaching, familiarity with college-level language programs, and relevant teaching experience using current language-teaching methodologies. For R&C instruction : Demonstrated experience teaching reading and writing in English. For literature / culture instruction : Demonstrated expertise in German language, literature, and culture, with possible emphasis in media, politics, social issues, and popular culture.
