This is an exciting new position at PCCD, created to advance our commitment to usability and accessibility in public safety and criminal justice. Are you passionate about designing intuitive, accessible systems that make a difference in public safety and criminal justice? Join our team at PCCD as a User Experience and Accessibility Specialist to enhance the usability of critical systems like Egrants, CIPP, and JHELD. Your expertise in accessibility standards and modern UI/UX design will help ensure our applications serve all users effectively, including those with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure usability and accessibility compliance for PCCD-developed and maintained systems, including Egrants, CIPP, JHELD, and others.
Act as a key contributor in designing and developing user interfaces for an upcoming Egrants project.
Evaluate applications for accessibility compliance (e.g., WCAG 2.1 AA), develop mitigation plans, and remediate identified issues.
Recommend and implement responsive designs, optimizing applications for mobile and tablet usage.
Collaborate with business and technical analysts to create prototypes and gather focus group feedback.
Prepare recommendations for modernizing legacy .NET webforms applications into MVC or other contemporary frameworks.
Assist the development team during product upgrades by:
- Testing changes and documenting results using Microsoft Azure DevOps (ADO).
- Preparing and publishing product release notes.
- Developing test plans for user acceptance testing.
Communicate status updates effectively to stakeholders.
Participate in team meetings to understand upcoming changes and provide UI/UX recommendations.
Maintain accurate time tracking for all work activities.
Establish and maintain mechanisms for users to report digital accessibility issues or concerns.
Qualifications:
Required
Demonstrated experience using accessibility compliance tools (e.g., Axe, JAWS, NVDA).
5+ years of experience developing complex applications in an object-oriented environment.
5+ years of experience developing with Visual Basic, C#, XML, CSS, and HTML.
5+ years of experience working with SQL Server or comparable relational databases.
Highly Desired
Relevant experience with UI/UX tools and frameworks (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Bootstrap).
3+ years of experience with accessibility testing tools and methodologies.
Demonstrated experience with source code management tools.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to complete regular accessibility training in alignment with evolving standards.
Relevant experience with contemporary user experience guidelines and tools.
