Position Information

Position Title: Content Strategist and Copywriter

Position Summary: The Content Strategist and Copywriter is responsible for designing and implementing engaging content to inspire action and support UIW’s enrollment communications and marketing strategy across several communication channels. The Content Strategist and Copywriter reports to the Assistant Director of Digital Strategy and Marketing.

Job Duties:

  1. Content Strategy and Development:
    • Create and write compelling copy targeted to prospective students for multiple platforms: digital, video, print, email, social media, blogs, website, text and presentations;
    • Assist in the creation of video scripts to produce marketing videos that showcase the university to recruit new students;
    • Strategically plan and develop content marketing through research and targeted audiences utilizing research and analytics;
    • Work with university staff and faculty to develop content for recruitment materials;
    • Review and edit content from team members and website content contributors to the UIW editorial standards;
    • Create and execute complex email and texting communications utilizing third-party technologies;
    • Identify and pursue storytelling opportunities that resonate with prospective students;
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  2. Website Support:
    • Write and manage website content to be accurate and optimized to further engagement while incorporating SEO (Search Engine Optimization) best practices;
    • Review and report on website, text, and email analytics as impacted by content;
    • Utilize SEO and website review tools to enhance content ranking and marketability;
    • Craft content to meet audience profiles through graphic and design elements;
    • Analyze and report on analytics for communication tools including website, text, chatbot, and email.
  3. Social Media Management:
    • Create and write social media copy to help maintain a strong social media presence for the admissions team including developing copy for paid social media ads;
    • Design, review and schedule posts through social media management tools;
    • Review social media copy from team members to ensure it meets UIW standards.
  4. Collaborate with Internal and External Partners:
    • Develop relationships with key university officials, faculty, staff, and students to identify new and innovative ways to tell the UIW story;
    • Collaborate with UIW administrative offices to reinforce the UIW brand through admissions publications and promotional items;
    • Cooperate with third-party vendors, online aggregators, and partners to keep purchased and organic messaging/listings accurate and enhanced.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent skills for crafting persuasive, results-driven copy that inspires action;
  • Excellent editing expertise with strong AP-style guide knowledge;
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite tools;
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent project management skills and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with internal stakeholders;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.

Required Work Experience:

  • Three (3) years of professional communications and marketing related experience to include creating content across multiple media venues (print, digital, social media);
  • Two (2) years of experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) and functional HTML skills;
  • Two (2) years of social media management experience for an organization or business.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or other email vendors;
  • Strong understanding of strategic design thinking for effective graphic to deliver a strong message utilizing Adobe Creative Suite tools.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations: Must have a valid driver's license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

Work Hours: Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with occasional extended hours to include evenings and weekends as needed to meet departmental goals.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to regularly move about campus to attend meetings.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to develop copy.
