89bio is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of best-in-class therapies for patients with liver and cardiometabolic diseases who lack optimal treatment options. The company is focused on rapidly advancing its lead candidate, pegozafermin, through Phase 3 clinical development for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG). Pegozafermin is a specifically engineered, potentially best-in-class fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) analog with unique glycoPEGylated technology that optimizes biological activity through an extended half-life. THE ROLE
The Clinical Science / Development internship will offer hands-on experience in a global Phase 3 clinical trial setting. As an intern, you will perform in-depth data analyses across multiple datasets (e.g., enrollment trends, adverse events, baseline characteristics) to uncover and address potential risks in drug development.
You will have the opportunity to develop and refine your data analysis skills (using R, Python, Excel, Prism, and more) while learning to communicate technical insights to diverse audiencesranging from dynamic study teams to key opinion leaders in the field. In addition, you will be exposed to various trial designs, trial execution strategies, and gain insight into the biology of metabolic liver diseases, preparing you for a future in clinical development.

THE QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled in an accredited college / university pursuing the following degrees : Any biology (molecular, chemistry, environmental, bioengineering) or health care related field. MD-PhD students are highly encouraged.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Experience with R and machine learning highly preferred.
- Background investigations are required for all positions by 89bio, consistent with applicable law.
COMPENSATION
This is a (40 hours / week) paid internship lasting 8 weeks over the 2025 Summer.
Pay will be commensurate with level (undergrad / graduate)
