$425 per week plus housing per week

Position: Scenic Artist

The Scenic Artist works closely with the Scenic Designer, Technical Director, and Artistic Director to execute the visual elements of productions through painting, texturing, sculpting, and detailing of all scenic items and furniture. This role requires artistic proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Design Execution: Interpret renderings and mix colors to match designer specifications.
  2. Scenic Creation: Prime, paint, texture, detail, and sculpt all scenic items, including furniture.
  3. Maintenance: Maintain and touch up scenic elements throughout the production run.
  4. Record Keeping: Keep detailed records of paint colors used.
  5. Budget and Timeline: Work within established production budgets and timelines.
  6. Workspace Management: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  7. Strike: Assist in striking scenic elements after each production.
  8. Collaboration: Communicate with the Scenic Designer and Technical Director to order materials and coordinate tasks.
  9. Additional Tasks: Support the props department and complete other duties as assigned by the Technical Director.
  10. Scene Shop Support: Assist in the scene shop when painting tasks are complete.

Skills

  1. Proficiency in scenic painting techniques.
  2. Experience with spray guns, sprayers, or airbrush (preferred but not required).
  3. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  4. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  5. Comfortable performing physical tasks like bending, lifting, and working in various environments.
  6. Willingness to learn and maintain a positive attitude.
