Job Summary/Description
Under general supervision, the content specialist supports the marketing efforts to help the university reach recruitment and advancement goals. Serving primarily as a content creator, this position oversees the university’s growing email marketing strategy and supports various positions across campus in content development for multiple mediums.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
- Oversee the email marketing campaigns for the office, including writing, editing and building of promotional emails in email marketing platform. Assist in the editing and distribution of division partner emails, as needed.
- Working closely with various team members, serve as the office’s main point of contact for Canva and LiveWhale event approvals to ensure proper branding, voice and tone are being used across all platforms.
- Assist in the writing and/or editing of marketing copy for the Office of Admissions and Office of Development and Alumni Relations, including, but not limited to, promotional print, video, web and email content.
- Assist in the development of content for various digital marketing campaigns, the ASU website, including the Angelo State blog, and social media platforms.
- Assist in the compilation and distribution of data for digital marketing campaigns to various departments and offices throughout campus.
- Work with a variety of offices across campus to establish consistent use of branded voice and tone in their marketing materials.
- Assist the office in the development of presentations, ranging from trainings to video slideshows.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Operational knowledge of design software, digital content management system(s), metrics, social media and marketing capabilities.
- Ability to write accurate, audience-appropriate content for various purposes, such as internal and external communications, digital and print marketing materials, and reports.
- Ability to lead peers and internal and external clients with insightful guidance.
- Skilled in time management and adapting to changing situations and work demands.
- Skilled in managing multiple incoming requests and projects with precision and organization.
- Ability to understand and meet assigned deadlines.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals, including university administration, faculty, staff and others.
- Knowledge of fundamental marketing techniques, goal setting and performance tracking.
- Ability to think creatively and find innovative ways to present marketing campaigns.
- Knowledge of social media content creation practices for various platforms.
- Ability to present ideas in a clear, constructive manner.
- Ability to follow appropriate style guidelines and maintain internally consistent text.
- Ability to use web-based applications, such as content management systems, project management systems, and social media channels and management tools.
- Knowledge of federal and state law, Texas Tech University System Regents Rules and Angelo State University operating policies regarding communication and marketing practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, English, mass media, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Experience of at least 2-3 years in a related field.
- Ability to work with a content management system and use digital management and marketing tools, such as Canva and email marketing platforms.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and accurately in writing and orally.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of AP Style
- Intermediate or expert knowledge of Canva
