Job Summary
Bethel University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of English and Journalism, which includes teaching introductory and advanced courses, as well as research, student mentoring, and service to the University. We are open to hiring an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor for this position. The salary range for an Assistant Professor is $55,599 - $70,043, Associate Professor is $62,927 - $84,168, and Full Professor is $77,265 - $95,904.
Responsibilities
- Teach the equivalent of six courses per year, primarily in a face-to-face format.
- Teach introductory and advanced literature courses, which may include American literary traditions, British literature, Shakespeare, and literary theory, as well as other courses aligned with the candidate's expertise.
- Teach in the Western Humanities program, a sequence of general education courses taught in a combination of lecture and small-group seminar format with a team of faculty from other humanities disciplines.
- Advise undergraduate students regarding their academic and vocational plans.
- Collaborate in departmental programming.
- Serve on University committees as assigned.
- Demonstrate commitment to the liberal arts educational mission and Christian orientation of the university.
- Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the department and the discipline.
Skills
- Ability and enthusiasm for teaching literature in a liberal arts university setting.
- Ability to contribute to general education and teach literature courses from lower-level surveys to advanced literary theory and analysis.
Experience
Strong record of undergraduate teaching preferred.
Education
PhD in English required, with a strong preference for an area of English-language Literature.

Compensation: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
