Title: Sr. Technical Writer / Technical Writing Manager

About the Role

As a Senior Technical Writer / Technical Writing Manager you’ll lead the charge in transforming complex technical concepts into polished, user-friendly documentation that empowers our customers, field technicians, and internal teams alike. While you’ll set the standard for high-level initiatives—like crafting white papers and system integration guides—you’ll also roll up your sleeves and dive into the hands-on work, creating the same customer-facing materials as your junior counterparts when needed. One moment, you’ll be spearheading a major documentation initiative; the next, you’ll be mentoring junior writers or collaborating with engineers on cutting-edge product narratives. Partnering across teams, you’ll create content that not only reflects our brand’s technical excellence but also elevates our reputation as a leader in autonomous and hybrid power solutions.

Our Technical Publications department, within Engineering, is a new department and as the leader of the group, you would mentor, coach, and lead 3 others (2 Technical Writers and 1 Graphic Designer). Also, you would help to mold, grow and shape the direction of the department.

Role on a Daily Basis:

  • Create and manage content development (e.g., white papers, system integration guides, conceptual explanations) while maintaining the ability to produce customer-tailored, precise, user-friendly documentation (e.g., specification sheets, product manuals, system diagrams) as needed.
  • Review and validate all written materials for technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into straightforward, concise, and visually appealing documents tailored for a variety of audiences, including customers, field technicians, and internal teams.
  • Partner with Engineering, Sales, and Customer Service stakeholders to anticipate documentation needs, shape product stories, influence project direction, and act as a bridge, ensuring technical precision and business alignment.
  • Create and deliver proposals, technical case studies, presentations, and stories that communicate our technology and position our firm as an industry leader.
  • Develop and maintain templates and formatting guidelines to ensure consistent and properly branded documentation across all materials.
  • Ensure that all documentation meets industry and government standards - DOD and regulated environments, for technical communication.
  • Drive the refinement of documentation processes, introducing innovative approaches to ensure efficiency, consistency, and alignment with company goals.
  • Support technical writers on the team by sharing expertise, offering feedback, and setting the standard for technical excellence and creativity.
  • Maintain ongoing, accurate, and comprehensive documentation by regularly updating and revising based on product updates, feedback, and engineering change notices / orders.
  • Develop courseware, presentations, and learning material for user training, and cross functional training for Sales, Engineering, and Customer support team members.

Experience and Education needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Communications, or a related field.
  • 5+ years experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, or a related industry.
  • Exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills with the ability to translate complex technical information into digestible, user-friendly content.
  • Skilled in documentation tools such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Indesign, CorelDRAW, Microsoft Office Suite, and specialized software (e.g., Visio).
  • Great ability in reading and interpreting engineering schematics, product specifications, and system designs.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, technical drawings, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Preferred Skills

  • Background in industries like renewable energy, autonomous power systems, government contracting, and/or defense is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD software or technical illustration tools.
