Campbell County Public Library System is looking for a passionate Adult Services Librarian to make a daily difference in our community! If you thrive on customer service, teamwork, and lifelong learning, this is the perfect role for you.

This position performs with excellence, the following tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Provides excellent customer service to colleagues and the public;
  • Participates in weeding of Collection, using CREW standards, on an as needed basis;
  • Assists with reference and reader’s advisory duties as needed;
  • Assists at the circulation desk when necessary, assists with large scale library events, including occasional evenings and Saturdays;
  • Operates standard office machines, including personal computers and the online circulation system.
  • Ensures the collection of statistics as required by the Library of Virginia;
  • Participates in library organizations, attends conferences, workshops, and webinars, and reads library literature for professional growth.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (Master’s level) in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school is preferred
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Additional education and/or training may be substituted where applicable.
  • Eligibility for Virginia Public Library certification;
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license;
  • Completion of National Incident Management System (IS-100 and IS- 700 or NIMS equivalent) within 90 days of employment.

  • Diverse knowledge of and interest in books and media;
  • Thorough knowledge of library collection and techniques;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Tact, poise, and resourcefulness in dealing with the public;
  • Working knowledge of computer software, Internet, automated library systems, and other library equipment and electronic resources, including Microsoft Office products;
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other staff;
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to utilize the county’s adopted software platform.

Adult Services Librarian

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Services two library branches and fills in at other branches, as needed;
  • Conducts reader’s advisory and adult reference service;
  • Provides routine technology assistance to the public in the form of classes and 1x1 instruction;
  • Plans and coordinates adult outreach and programming;
  • Collaborate with other library staff members for programming and outreach opportunities, as needed;
  • Participates on Collection Management Team to develop collection, assist with ordering/weeding/cataloging duties, and manage budget;
  • Participates in the Program Team, its projects and community outreach events; maintain adult programming budget;
  • Maintains library website and other electronic platforms, as needed;
  • Serves as liaison to Friends of the Library and other community groups, as needed;
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of issues related to books and media, best sellers, new author, current events, popular culture, etc.;
  • In tandem with other departments, plans and executes marketing in print, web, and social media formats.
