Job Description

This is a part-time position working 20 hours per week. Specific schedule to be determined by the Library Director or Designated Library staff.

The Library Courier is a vital support position responsible for the safe and timely transportation of library materials between library branches and other designated locations within Onslow County. This part-time position requires a reliable individual with a strong work ethic, excellent driving skills, and the ability to work independently while adhering to established schedules and procedures.

Position Responsibilities

  • Transporting books, library materials, mail, and other items between library facilities and other locations.
  • Operating a library vehicle in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Loading and unloading materials, using equipment such as hand trucks.
  • Sorting materials for correct transport and delivery.
  • Cleaning and maintaining delivery vehicle.
  • Maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
  • Following all Onslow County Library policies and procedures.
  • Performing assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteered.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Excellent driving skills and familiarity with Onslow County roads and traffic patterns.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to perform basic life operational functions such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, standing, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Must possess visual acuity to operate equipment and motor vehicles, prepare written records, and operate computers.
  • Required to work outside as needed in all seasons and weather conditions.
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

Salary will be based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
Regular Onslow County employees have the ability to participate in a wide array of employee benefits including:

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System
Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.

NC401k
The County contributes 1% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 4%.

Vacation Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.

Sick Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.

Paid Holidays
County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners may adjust the holiday schedule as deemed necessary.
