Reuters, the world's largest independent global news organization, is seeking a highly motivated Climate Science Fellow to join our investigative team on a groundbreaking project analyzing global temperature trends. This is a unique, six-month paid fellowship offering an opportunity for a graduate student or postdoctoral scientist to transition their expertise into impactful journalism.

This immersive fellowship provides a platform to leverage your climate science background (or a similar physical science) to communicate complex scientific findings to a global audience. You'll work alongside experienced investigative journalists and data scientists, contributing to a high-profile project with global impact.

About the Role

As our Reuters Climate Science Fellow (Level 1 Journalist – Temp), you will:

  • Analyze diverse climate datasets to identify key trends and insights.
  • Develop innovative software tools and statistical models to enhance our understanding of climate change.
  • Create compelling presentations summarizing complex findings for a broad audience.
  • Collaborate with a team of editors, reporters, and visual journalists on a worldwide project.
  • Contribute to the creation of impactful news stories that shape the global conversation on climate change.

About You

As our Reuters Climate Science Fellow (Level 1 Journalist – Temp), you will likely have:

  • A Graduate degree (Masters or PhD) in climate science, atmospheric science, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with large datasets.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL), statistical modelling and geospatial libraries.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a passion for translating complex scientific information into accessible narratives.
  • A desire to apply scientific expertise in a journalistic setting.
