Position Information
Hiring Department: KTEP
Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.
Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends.
FLSA status: Exempt
Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.
Salary: $50,000.00 Annually.

The primary accountabilities are intended to describe the general content and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver’s license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.
Purpose of Position
Reports professional quality local newscasts, news spots, and investigative reports for KTEP News. Serves as host/anchor voicing and editing together audio elements including host intros/outros, voicers, and spots or features with a mix of local and regional content from KTEP reporters and The Texas Newsroom stations. KTEP News Director will provide editorial guidance and feedback in the areas of story selection, development, writing, and mixing audio and in some cases video or other multimedia elements.
Essential Functions
- Stay informed on local issues and current events to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
- Provide ongoing coverage of key borderland topics, including health, business, education, immigration, and local government.
- Contribute to daily newscasts by submitting reader voices, stories, and relevant content focused on local matters.
- Write web-based stories to complement select segments or in-depth features.
- Adhere to established deadlines and revise content as necessary to ensure quality.
- Maintain regular communication with the news director regarding story ideas, coverage plans, progress updates, and any required support or professional development.
- Uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity and ethics in all reporting.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree and Experience:
- Three years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of professional audio equipment and digital editing software.
- Professional experience in broadcasting news, public radio, or television.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcasting, or communications.
