We have an immediate need for a Proposal Writer to join our Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Sacramento, or Denver office. Under the general supervision and direction of the Director of Business Development, the Proposal Writer has responsibility for the development and management of the firm’s content for proposals and pitch books for the Government Relations Practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the firm’s pitch and proposal process, acting as the primary point of contact for the State GR practice; assist with Federal GR proposals as needed.
- Collaborate with the business development team to craft winning strategies for pitches and proposals.
- Ensure that best practices are being followed throughout the proposal process (evaluation, research, drafting, and review).
- Draft proposal responses that address our clients’ needs; create new content for targeted pitch materials.
- Attend internal pitch prep meetings and client pitch meetings that will inform proposal content.
- Build and maintain relationships with other departments that contribute to the proposal process.
- Maintain the content library for government relations proposals; identify and/or create “best of the best” language for industries and practices.
- Collect case studies and experience obtained from proposals and from day-to-day interactions with attorneys and policy professionals.
- Work with the business development team to ensure policy professionals participate in post-pitch evaluations to obtain feedback.
- Keep abreast of relevant market and competitive intelligence.
Required and Preferred Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or political science is required.
- At least 5 years of experience writing marketing materials, including proposals/RFPs, preferably in a professional service environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong writing and editing skills.
- Superior organizational and project management skills.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with AP style guidelines and relational databases.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Strong work ethic, service orientation, and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and to use critique of work to improve performance.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, creativity, and technical skills.
- Possess a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Compensation and Benefits: Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck offers a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k + match, profit sharing, and vacation/sick/personal time off. This role pays overtime for hours worked above 40 per week, with a salary ranging from $80,000-$95,000.
