REPORTS TO: Chief Operator Carrizo WTP
DIVISION: Hays/Caldwell Operations
WORK LOCATION: Carrizo WTP and pipelines in Hays, Gonzales and Caldwell Counties
SUMMARY
The Operator II position assists the Chief Operator at the Carrizo water treatment plant, well fields, and treated water delivery system in delivering potable water from the Carrizo plant to its customers at the required rate based on customer demand. The Carrizo treated water delivery system must meet or exceed the Safe Drinking Water Act standards, as enforced by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
The Operator II is expected to have a good working knowledge of groundwater treatment plants, their general maintenance and operational activities, well fields, and potable water transmission systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all work in accordance with safety procedures and policies.
- Insures the security of GBRA/Alliance buildings, equipment, and grounds.
- Under supervision of the chief operator, observes and makes changes to the plant process, operation, and equipment for proper function and performance; performs emergency maintenance when required.
- Perform checks and daily inspection of wells, pump stations and wholesale delivery points.
- Notifies the Chief Operator when problems and/or questions arise.
- Assists with the maintenance and care of all materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles assigned to the plant.
- Maintains the plant buildings, grounds, control room, lab, and restrooms on a daily basis.
- Maintains a courteous attitude when dealing with the public and wholesale customers.
- Assists with the maintenance of the Alliance/GBRA treated water delivery system pipelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Work hours other than Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; potential rotation of 10- or 12-hour shifts.
- Ability to do shift work, act alone, and continuously exercise sound judgment and vigilance.
- Subject to on-call duties as scheduled by the Chief Operator.
- Respond to emergencies during off-duty hours.
- Safely operate gas, electric, hydraulic, and hand tools.
- Read and understand highly technical information in small print.
- Perform basic math skills.
- Read analog and digital indicators.
- Possess basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- The permanent residence must be such that roadway travel time from home to reporting station takes no more than 45 minutes. This response time must be achieved without violating traffic laws.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
- Valid Driver’s License. Acceptable MVR. Ability to remain insurable under GBRA’s vehicle liability policy.
- Possess a Class C Ground Water Operator license at minimum, Class B Groundwater or Class A preferred.
EXPERIENCE
+3 Years in related field preferred. Experience in utility operations and maintenance, customer service, or construction is desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work at elevated levels greater than 30 feet on platforms, roofs, bridges, etc. Climb vertical ladders up to 20 feet in height. Repeatedly lift, load, and unload up to 50 pounds. Respond to visual and audible alarms. Wear personal protection equipment such as safety glasses, protective footwear, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as outlined in the employee Safety Manual. Safely enter, exit, and work in trenches and confined spaces. Perform basic first aid and CPR.
Employees must wear protective footwear in compliance with ANSI or ASTM standard. New employees are provided protective footwear. Replacement footwear is provided annually for qualifying employees.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Approximately 50/50 percent of work outdoors and indoors. Occasional travel to attend training necessary for maintaining licenses and certificates as required. Some dirty duties but generally work can be performed in a clean and well-organized environment. There are hazards associated with chemicals and rotating or moving mechanical parts that require an operator to exercise care in his activities. Works with or is exposed to hazardous chemicals used in the treatment of water.

TRAVEL
Personal transportation is required to normal work site at which point employee will use vehicles provided by GBRA to perform duties. Overnight travel mainly limited to meetings and training.
