The California Lottery is looking for a dynamic Social Media Specialist who is passionate about social media marketing and customer engagement.

Under the general direction of the Chief, Engagement & Retention Marketing and Staff Services Manager-III of Digital Properties, the Social Media Specialist (Marketing Analyst II) is responsible for the planning, development, execution, and analysis of content on Lottery's designated social media platforms which include but are not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, and Snapchat. This role is fast-paced with a high volume of work. The expectation of this position is to be an established subject matter expert in all aspects of social media marketing (paid, organic, and influencer) and to constantly learn new social media trends, paid social opportunities, and best practices. This position is critical to ensuring that the Lottery provides an exceptional experience at all stakeholder touch points that motivate consumers to play Lottery games, build understanding of our mission, increase engagement and loyalty with the Lottery brand, and drive sales to generate supplemental funding for public education.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as assigned. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires the employee to reside in California per California Government Code Section 14200.

Working Conditions

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm with an hour lunch.

Desirable Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably with a specialization in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • At least two years of experience performing social media marketing duties.
  • Expert knowledge of the social media landscape with the ability to keep a finger on the pulse of social media trends.
  • Extensive knowledge of content development, graphic design, copywriting, social media aesthetics, community management, customer service, and social engagement.
  • Experience with social media management platforms such as Brandwatch, Sprout Social, Buffer, Hootsuite, etc.
  • Experience with paid social media campaigns, organic social media support, and influencer marketing.
  • Strong knowledge of analytic dashboards and analytic presentation experience, tracking metrics and generating reports.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in gaming, entertainment, e-commerce, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), or consumer packaged goods (CPG) categories preferred.
