Purpose
Are you an experienced utility professional who thrives on working directly with customers, developers, and contractors to bring new electric service projects to life? As a Senior Planner, you will play a key role in guiding customers through the utility business process, ensuring seamless project execution, and delivering high-quality service. This is a hands-on role where you’ll lead the design and coordination of complex utility projects while helping to shape standards, mentor junior planners, and support operational excellence.
Accountabilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for external customers, developers, contractors, engineering firms, local agencies, and utilities
Identify customer needs for new electric service and ensure service commitments are met
Design and manage a variety of projects, including large commercial developments, residential subdivisions, and capital projects exceeding $100K
Prepare and present financial agreements, negotiate terms, and administer contracts
Develop detailed utility designs, work orders, cost estimates, and improvement plans
Oversee quality assurance in design work and ensure compliance with utility standards
Coordinate mapping, easement acquisitions, and master planning for utility infrastructure
Lead and train Planners and Associate Planners, sharing expertise and best practices
Support process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts
Participate in on-call duty supervisor rotation, responding to emergency situations with a company vehicle provided for commuting and emergency response purposes
Ensure all necessary permits, easements, and environmental clearances are acquired before construction
Perform pole loading calculations and submit Joint Pole Applications as required
Use AutoCAD, Designer, QUADRA, and TRFM to support planning and design functions
Perform other responsibilities as requested by leadership and as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience in electric utility planning, engineering, or a related field
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Designer, and QUADRA for utility design and material lists
Strong customer service and communication skills to collaborate effectively with customers and internal teams
Ability to manage multiple projects, problem-solve, and navigate regulatory requirements
Knowledge of NV Rule 9 OR CA Rule 15/16
Experience designing large-scale projects a plus
Familiarity with utility construction standards, right-of-way (ROW) processes, and environmental permitting
Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to maintain accurate records and ensure compliance

Senior Planner Union Rate - $59.16 per hour
$1.50 per hour on-call rate for duty supervisor rotations
