Summary of Position: The Communication & Technology Director, in collaboration with the parish clergy and staff, oversees and coordinates the planning, production, and distribution of various media to promote the work of St. John Paul II Parish and further its mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the office of the Pastor by providing timely and professional communications in letters, messages, and publications directed toward parishioners and members of the community.
  • Oversees the production and distribution of the weekly bulletin, including solicitation, organization, editing, layout, design, coordination with the publisher, and distribution.
  • Develops and maintains the St. John Paul II Parish and Holy Cross School websites, ensuring they are accurate, up-to-date, attractive, and thorough.
  • Coordinates and maintains all parish and school social media accounts in collaboration with the priests and staff.
  • Acts as the primary photographer for parish events; organizes and maintains photographs and other digital materials in a shared drive.
  • Oversees production and online distribution of high-quality livestreamed liturgies and other events.
  • Coordinates and recruits volunteers to assist in communication efforts, such as livestreaming, bulletin distribution, and event photography.
  • Creates, develops, and maintains professional branded materials for print and digital media associated with the parish and school.
  • Maintains and oversees all technology in use at the parish and school.
  • Serves as the point person for troubleshooting software, networking, computers, telephones, and printers/copiers.
  • Displays professionalism and a fervent commitment to Christ and the Church through encounters with parishioners, staff, and priests.
  • Serves as the media liaison with the Diocese of Portland Office of Communications and consults with the Diocesan IT Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications and/or Skills:

  • Practicing Roman Catholic who understands and supports the mission and purpose of the Church and the parish.
  • 5 years of experience in media and/or communications preferred.
  • Attention to detail and strategic vision.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High level of creativity and a sharp eye for aesthetics.
  • Professional presentation.
  • Willingness to build community and work as part of a team.
  • Completion of the diocesan program “Protecting God’s Children” within 90 days of employment.
  • Meets all employment policies in the Diocese of Portland “Parish Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.”
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and design-specific products like Adobe Design or Canva.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to keystroke 3 – 4 hours per day with reasonable breaks.
  • Ability to sit for 3 – 4 hours a day with reasonable breaks.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel occasionally.
