Job Description
Position Overview:
The purpose of a Technical Writer is to create clear, concise, and accurate documentation that effectively communicates complex information to a target audience. A Technical Writer plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between complex technical concepts and the end users, enhancing the usability of products and facilitating effective communication.
Responsibilities:
- Clarity: Ensuring that technical information is presented in an understandable manner, avoiding jargon unless it is clearly defined.
- Audience Awareness: Tailoring content to meet the needs of specific audiences, whether they are technical experts or laypersons.
- Documentation: Producing user manuals, guides, online help, and other documentation that helps users understand products or systems.
- Collaboration: Working closely with engineers, developers, and subject matter experts to gather information and ensure accuracy.
- Standardization: Establishing and maintaining documentation standards and style guides to ensure consistency across all materials.
- Usability: Focusing on the end-user experience by organizing information logically and incorporating visual aids such as diagrams and screenshots.
- Updates and Maintenance: Regularly updating documentation to reflect product changes, ensuring users always have access to the most current information
Duties:
- Conduct interviews with subject matter experts (SMEs) to acquire in-depth knowledge of products, processes, and systems.
- Review existing documentation and resources to gather relevant information.
- Develop a variety of documents such as solution and design documents, user manuals, installation guides, API documentation, online help content, and knowledge base articles.
- Write, edit, and proofread technical documents to ensure clarity, accuracy, and completeness
- Coordinates the display of graphics and the production of the document, incorporating visual aids like diagrams, screenshots, and infographics to complement text and improve understanding.
- Ensures content is of high quality and conforms to standards. Use clear and concise language, avoiding jargon unless necessary and clearly defined. Maintain consistency in terminology, tone, and style throughout all documentation.
- Organize information logically and structure documentation to enhance usability.
- Implement and adhere to documentation standards and style guides
- Supports the development of technical software documentation such as specifications, design description documents, and test reports.
- Understand the target audience's needs and tailor the documentation to different user levels, from technical experts to non-technical users.
- Work closely with engineers, developers, quality assurance teams, and other stakeholders to gather technical information and verify accuracy.
- Facilitate communication between teams to ensure alignment on project objectives related to documentation.
- Regularly review and revise documentation to keep it up-to-date with product changes, new features, and user feedback.
- Track documentation versions and manage revisions properly.
- Provide training sessions or presentations for team members or stakeholders on how to use the documentation effectively.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
- Expertise in using Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Outstanding copyediting and proofreading skills in the English language.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize work requirements and complete a variety of assignments with minimal supervision.
- Self-starter and ability to work independently.
- Ability to support a dynamic work schedule.
Preferred:
- Ability to maintain or obtain a security clearance
