Specific Job Duties and Tasks:

  • Develop messaging and strategies, consistent with university and college brand.
  • Develop communications to specific audiences on behalf of the Office of the Dean, including colleagues, alumni, donors, and legislators.
  • Collaborate with the UI Office of Strategic Communication (OSC) to ensure brand and message integration.
  • Track progress towards goals and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing communications and paid advertising efforts to target audiences.
  • Recommend and implement optimizations for improvement.
  • Create and oversee implementation of a strategic marketing plan and vision.
  • Assess progress toward marketing and communication goals.
  • Develop and implement college-wide positioning and messaging to ensure brand quality and consistency across platforms.
  • Keep on top of marketing trends and implement when appropriate.
  • Determine content, themes and be responsible for the publication and distribution of all College of Law communications.
  • Centrally coordinate recurring communication from the Dean including monthly messages to internal and external constituencies, including prompts and talking points.
  • Manage project timeline in coordination with external publishing vendor.
  • Create processes internally to ensure on-time completion of editorial content developed within the College of Law.
  • Determine and track budget for all marketing efforts.
  • Supervise staff and student workers.
  • Develop and direct projects based on College of Law marketing and communications plan, budget, and operations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field, i.e. journalism, marketing, communications, public relations
  • Typically 5-7 years of experience leading strategic communications, marketing and/or brand management for a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations strategy/activities
  • Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, creating state-of-the art presentations, and dealing with media campaigns, social media, and electronic print media
  • Ability to design and coordinate the production of message strategy, creative execution, copywriting, photography, artwork and media planning and placement of publications, advertisements, video presentations, web sites, and other mediums
  • Experience and expertise in social media
  • Ability to communicate and explain programs to a broad constituency
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement special programs related to the University and College programs and operations
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and independently as well as establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external designers, writers, photographers, vendors, administrators, staff, faculty, students, alumni and others
  • Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people in a manner that positively portrays the University and its programs, personnel, and philosophy
  • Demonstrated, successful experience managing people and teams
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; serve as role models/lead others in the organization
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Experience, hiring, training, developing, supervising, and evaluation of staff.
  • Comfortable and committed to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional team.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively and collaboratively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, including knowledge of effective strategies that foster and promote a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and manage a budget
  • Knowledge of strategic communications and marketing in an institute of higher education.
