Technical Writer

Monaco Enterprises, a Spokane based manufacturer of fire and emergency management systems, has an immediate opening for a full-time Technical Writer. Primary responsibility is to produce illustrated software and hardware documentation that covers installation-operation-maintenance-trouble shooting, marketing/catalog cut-sheets and training materials for our products. This is for a highly motivated writer who learns products through hands-on, research and reviewing electronic technical data. Engineering technical background preferred to be able to produce accurate easy to use documentation. Applicant must have strong communication skills, able to handle multiple projects with strong organizational skills, strong problem solving and research skills with ability to work independently and the ability to adjust communication for Engineers, Customer Service and End Users.

Overall Purpose of Job: The Technical Writer is responsible for creating technical documentation including product manuals, user guides and training materials. They will need to research products, work with other departments, and ensure that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date while following company standards. They will also be responsible for maintaining the document library and assisting with product marketing literature.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and release product manuals, product cut sheets, installation and assembly instructions, and compile materials for training seminars.
  • Integrate photographs, drawings, and application guides into product manuals and marketing cut sheets.
  • Ability to convey complex technical topics to non-technical end users of the products.
  • Detail-oriented and able to produce deliverables within established timelines.
  • Ability to generate documentation that maintains consistency in style, formatting, and content.
  • Collaborate with product development engineers, marketing teams, and key stakeholders to deliver concise, accurate, and comprehensive information to target audiences.
  • Compile technical information on products through conducting technical research or eliciting input from appropriate departments.
  • Organize and maintain various document standards and styles
  • Organize, track progress of, and archive all publications. Maintain revisions and dates of individual documents.
  • Research the pertinent safety certifications and ensure publications have the correct markings
  • Work within safety guidelines provided by the Safety Committee

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in technical writing or relevant coursework
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience
  • 3+ years of word processing and desktop publishing experience
  • 3+ years of computer/electronic technology experience (or an AAS)
  • Ability to comprehend and articulate complex technical concepts
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent technical and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Detail-oriented and accurate
  • Diplomatic
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Manual dexterity

Special Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Comprehensive understanding of graphic arts concepts (layouts, camera-ready copy, composition dummies)
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools (screwdrivers, socket wrenches)
  • Experience or proficiency in Adobe for Enterprise tools, including FrameMaker, Acrobat, Illustrator, and Photoshop as well as the fonts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft or Google office applications (Google preferred)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend most hours sitting. The employee is constantly required to see and determine color; move in a repetitive motion; and have fine finger manipulation. The employee is seldom required to walk; stand; crouch/kneel; bend and twist at the waist; reach with hands and arms; handle/grasp with a 2% pinch grasp or 2% whole hand grasp; and lift/carry up to 20 pounds. The employee will to climb stairs to reach their work area.
