WFXR WWCW, the local FOX and CW affiliates in Roanoke, Virginia, has an immediate opening for a Broadcast Engineer.

This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, updating, and repairing hardware and systems used for broadcasting and business operations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Works with the Engineering team to maintain all broadcast technology and equipment for the station.
  2. Works with the Engineering team to install and test new systems and technical infrastructure for the station.
  3. Minimizes service interruptions at times of equipment and/or system failure by rapidly identifying and implementing solutions.
  4. Sets up and operates equipment and transmission links during outside broadcasts.
  5. Works with the Engineering team to install and maintain the IT network, switches, data backups, workstations, and printers.
  6. Interprets and implements instructions and requests from other station personnel.
  7. Communicates with members of the engineering team and other teams to effectively resolve equipment and system issues.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:

  1. Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  2. Strong troubleshooting skills for information technology systems and broadcast systems.
  3. Fluency in English.
  4. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  5. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  6. Experience with digital electronics and IT systems.
  7. Strong Windows OS/MS Office and Active Directory experience.
  8. Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
  9. Experience with production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems, and editing systems preferred.
  10. Experience with broadcast-related equipment such as transmitters and microwave signals is a plus.
  11. Experience evaluating, selecting, installing, servicing, and maintaining broadcasting industry equipment and information technology systems.
  12. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, system schematics, and flow charts.
  13. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  14. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
