WFXR WWCW, the local FOX and CW affiliates in Roanoke, Virginia, has an immediate opening for a Broadcast Engineer.
This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, updating, and repairing hardware and systems used for broadcasting and business operations.
Responsibilities:
- Works with the Engineering team to maintain all broadcast technology and equipment for the station.
- Works with the Engineering team to install and test new systems and technical infrastructure for the station.
- Minimizes service interruptions at times of equipment and/or system failure by rapidly identifying and implementing solutions.
- Sets up and operates equipment and transmission links during outside broadcasts.
- Works with the Engineering team to install and maintain the IT network, switches, data backups, workstations, and printers.
- Interprets and implements instructions and requests from other station personnel.
- Communicates with members of the engineering team and other teams to effectively resolve equipment and system issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills:
- Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for information technology systems and broadcast systems.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Experience with digital electronics and IT systems.
- Strong Windows OS/MS Office and Active Directory experience.
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
- Experience with production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems, and editing systems preferred.
- Experience with broadcast-related equipment such as transmitters and microwave signals is a plus.
- Experience evaluating, selecting, installing, servicing, and maintaining broadcasting industry equipment and information technology systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, system schematics, and flow charts.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
