Work Schedule Summary: Variable – based on your availability and the needs of the Simulation Centers. You will be offered roles (shifts) that fit your skill set and availability. You may be offered a recurring role or one-time roles as needed in the Simulation center. You can accept or decline roles. You are expected to arrive on time and work all shifts you accept. All roles are offered and assigned by the Program Manager.

Simulated Participants or SPs perform the role of the “patient” during health care simulations or clinical skills trainings for learners in the Simulation Centers located on the Health Sciences campus or via Zoom as determined by the SP Manager(s). SPs portray specific emotions, behaviors, and disease symptoms while interacting with learners in the health care field during simulated patient encounters that may include direct physical exam maneuvers by learners. SPs aid in establishing and maintaining fidelity and realism to each simulation. SPs consistently simulate all aspects of the scenario: including history, affect/behavior and physical findings, as well as recall actions and dialogue for completion of evaluations and/or questionnaires for the purpose of scoring.
Roles and shifts will be assigned by the Program Manager.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Memorize a case script detailing specific emotions, behaviors, and disease signs/symptoms for presentation during simulated learning situations.
- Present case information in a standardized manner, as elicited by students during simulated interactive patient history and/or medical examinations.
- Remain in a specific patient character.
- Embody roles with fidelity and realism.
- Participate in group training and of entry-level standardized patients.
- Maintain confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors and feedback evaluations.
- Provide educationally constructive verbal feedback from the patient standpoint when prompted by the facilitator.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferences:
- Ability to be flexible in different medical and educational settings.
- Formal training and/or certification with experience in areas such as theatre, dramatic script, acting for film/TV and vocal performance is preferred but not required.
- Experience working in a variety of theatrical and multimedia settings preferred.
