Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. What You'll Do:

  • Design, develop and iterate on high-quality shaders and materials for environments, hard surface models, and characters.
  • Collaborate with various teams to prototype and finalize materials and material systems that achieve specific visual goals, while working within performance budgets.
  • Build, organize and maintain a cohesive material library.
  • Bring extensive technical expertise and understanding of the physical properties of real-world surfaces and lighting to enhance the believability of our digital worlds.
  • Develop supporting documentation that outlines shader and material features, their associated parameters, use cases, and industry standards.
  • Mentor and tutor the technical and art teams to ensure proper shader and material networks for implementation on production assets.
  • Support materials and shader needs progressively as production continues until ship.
  • Work with Art Direction and Content to ensure materials match visual style and elevate expectations for AAA quality.

What You'll Bring:

  • A portfolio showcasing realistic and high-quality real-time work, including textures, materials, and shaders for characters, hard surfaces, and organic environments.
  • A strong understanding of shader concepts such as Dot Product and Cross Product.
  • An expert level knowledge of Unreal Engine’s Material system, including how to optimize and profile instructions.
  • Expert knowledge of Physically Based Rendering systems and how lighting pertains to surface quality.
  • The ability to troubleshoot technical and performance issues with little oversight from the Technical Art or Core Tech teams.
  • Previous experience using performance profiling tools such as Pix, RenderDoc, and/or Insights.
  • Previous experience working with texturing and visualization toolsets like Substance Designer and Marmoset.
  • Strong understanding of lighting and post processes and how it affects the overall look of materials and surfaces in game.

Nice to Have:

  • HLSL experience contributing to shipped game, film or simulation products.
  • Scripting and pipeline development experience.

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • Starting Pay Range: $88,100
  • Pay Range End: $175,100

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation range for this role. The range listed is just one component of Wizards of the Coast’s total compensation package for employees.
