Job Description

Assistant Lecturer or Assistant Instructor in Broadcast and Multi-Media Journalism, dependent on qualifications, in The School of Journalism and Advertising at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, College of Arts and Media. This is a 9-month term non-tenure track appointment that may be renewable. For the rank of Assistant Instructor, the applicant will have a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or a related field. For the rank of Assistant Lecturer, the applicant will possess a Masters Degree in Journalism, Radio-Television or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of 7 years of professional experience as a multi-media Journalist with a particular emphasis in news. Two years minimum experience as a News Director. Candidates will have experience with television equipment such as camcorders, editing software and studio equipment. Applicants should have broadcast and multi-media experience that would classify them as professionally qualified under the School of Journalism and Advertising departmental standards. A Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Radio, Television, Communications or a related field is required by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates will have 10 years or more of experience as a broadcast and multi-media journalist with a particular emphasis on television production. Ten years or more as a News Director. Teaching experience. A Master's Degree.

Job Requirements

This is a position for a seasoned broadcast industry professional. The successful candidate will teach seated and online courses in the areas of broadcast and multi-media production including producing across platforms, writing for the mass media, audio journalism, sports reporting, video editing and other courses within their area of expertise. They will be assigned to work with student-produced news entities including The Daily Egyptian, River Region Evening Edition, and Saluki Sports View. They will collaborate with the staff of WSIU Public Broadcasting Service and are expected to become an active member of the department.
