Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a full-time Librarian Teacher for its Lower School for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
Job Responsibilities
The Librarian will manage the lower school library and will oversee the circulation of all library materials for faculty and students. Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining an inviting setting for the library.
- Coordinating the ordering and receiving of library resources.
- Coordinating author visits, summer reading for students, March Madness Reading Challenge, and related assemblies.
- Teaching reading classes to small groups of students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.
- Serving as academic advisors and contributing to the Calvert community as coaches and club advisors.
- Participating in school committees as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Library Information Science, Elementary Education, or in Reading or Literacy. Candidates should also have:
- Prior experience teaching lower school-aged students.
- Working knowledge of current practices in library media.
- The ability to support and instruct students in information literacy skills including reading, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Compensation
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Salaries for teachers are based on years of teaching experience, education, and job-related responsibilities. The salary range for teachers is $50,000 to $70,000, and candidates with additional teaching experience and/or advanced degrees may receive a higher salary.
