Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has an opening for a full-time Librarian Teacher for its Lower School for the 2025-26 school year. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83.

Job Responsibilities

The Librarian will manage the lower school library and will oversee the circulation of all library materials for faculty and students. Responsibilities include:

  1. Maintaining an inviting setting for the library.
  2. Coordinating the ordering and receiving of library resources.
  3. Coordinating author visits, summer reading for students, March Madness Reading Challenge, and related assemblies.
  4. Teaching reading classes to small groups of students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.
  5. Serving as academic advisors and contributing to the Calvert community as coaches and club advisors.
  6. Participating in school committees as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Library Information Science, Elementary Education, or in Reading or Literacy. Candidates should also have:

  1. Prior experience teaching lower school-aged students.
  2. Working knowledge of current practices in library media.
  3. The ability to support and instruct students in information literacy skills including reading, research, and critical thinking skills.
  4. Excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Compensation

Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Salaries for teachers are based on years of teaching experience, education, and job-related responsibilities. The salary range for teachers is $50,000 to $70,000, and candidates with additional teaching experience and/or advanced degrees may receive a higher salary. Benefits include medical, prescription, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans, along with generous leave that includes paid holidays, sick, and personal leave days.
