Job Summary

The job duties of the Library Assistant include providing Library Circulation services for patrons at the service desks, among other public service duties. This position also involves opening and closing the library, working evenings and nights, and maintaining all aspects of the facility’s operations based on the needs of the library.

Job Duties

  • Providing Library Circulation services for patrons at the service desk and other public service duties
  • Opening and closing the library
  • Handle routine patron complaints and answer a variety of questions at the circulation desk
  • Submit a report at the end of the month
  • Maintaining all aspects of the facility operations based on the needs of the library
  • Work evenings and nights

Requested Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.

Experience:

  • No experience is required.

Other Preferences for Consideration

  • Library Assistance experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with a library environment, such as a page, or recent and relevant experience working in an Access Services or Circulation Department of an academic or research library.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Skill in alphabetic and numeric filing
  • Ability to learn and understand library terminology and functions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library users and staff
  • Ability to lift, transport, sort, and shelve library materials
  • Ability to operate standard library and office equipment including personal computers and library software, photocopiers, microfilm, and microfiche readers
