Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the instruction of course specific material within the School of Humanities, Music Department at San Juan College.
Essential Duties:
- Will provide 15 credit hours of instruction per semester with a primary teaching load in music courses. Classes within the program include, but are not limited to Music History, Music Appreciation, Music Fundamentals, Theory, Introduction to Music (Classical, Modern Classical, Popular American Music, World Music, etc.)
- Responsibilities include assessment, service on various college and department committees, maintenance of office hours, and other duties as assigned by the Dean.
- Development of program specific curriculum, course guide, syllabi, and other materials related to the program.
- Conduct musical ensembles including musical Orchestra, Symphonic Bands and an assortment of musical ensembles, often in collaboration with the vocal instructional coordinator.
- Supervise instrument and lecture adjunct instructors.
- Maintain music department library and equipment.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field, or a Master’s degree plus 18 graduate hours in Music.
- Experience in teaching Music Fundamentals, Theory, Introduction to Music required (Classical, Modern Classical, Popular American Music, World Music, etc.)
- Experience in Conducting student Orchestras, Symphonic Bands required.
- Experience in College/Community Collaborations preferred.
- Dual Credit Instruction a plus.
