We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Scientist in Protein Sciences to lead critical discovery efforts and collaborate with a network of visionary partners. This search is being led by Mix Talent, the retained recruitment partner for this opportunity. This is a direct hire position with our client, offering a chance to make a lasting impact in the dynamic field of biotherapeutics discovery.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Protein Discovery: Partner with CROs to design and implement binding protein discovery campaigns using both in vivo and in vitro approaches.
  2. Screening & Optimization: Collaborate with pharmacology leads to develop antibody hit screening funnels, oversee developability assessments, and create lead optimization strategies.
  3. Antibody Engineering: Design, generate, and characterize antibody-based therapeutics, including multispecifics and advanced modalities, leveraging sequence engineering, library display, and structural modeling.
  4. Project Leadership: Lead biotherapeutics discovery projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and scientific excellence.

Requirements:

  1. Education: PhD in biochemistry, biological engineering, immunology, cell biology, or related field.
  2. Expertise: Deep understanding of biotherapeutics discovery workflows, including antigen design, binding protein discovery, structural analysis, and developability assessments.
  3. Experience in antibody discovery via in vivo and in vitro approaches.
  4. Proficiency in antibody engineering (e.g., humanization, Fc optimization, multispecifics).
  5. Skilled in protein display systems (e.g., yeast, phage, mRNA) and library selection/enrichment analysis.
  6. Strong protein structure and analysis background, including structural determination methods like x-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, or NMR.
  7. Familiarity with structure-based protein modeling tools (e.g., Schrodinger, MOE, PyMol, Chimera).
  8. Knowledge of AI/ML applications for protein structure and interaction predictions in antibody development.
  9. Hands-on experience with biophysical/biochemical methods (e.g., ELISA, SPR, flow cytometry, thermal stability, protein expression/purification).
  10. Collaboration: Proven ability to manage and lead CRO partnerships effectively.

Nice-to-Have:

  1. Expertise in antibody conjugate technologies, site-specific conjugation, novel warhead development, or diverse antibody formats (e.g., fragments, bispecifics, protein scaffolds).
