The Training & Promotion Coordinator is responsible for the provision of all required public education programs and staff training related to emergency planning and management for the County and its sixteen member municipalities, as well as five other communities upon request. Assist with the development, implementation, and performance monitoring of the marketing and promotion of the emergency planning program across Simcoe County.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

  1. Under the direction of the Manager, Emergency Management, develop, schedule and deliver annual educational programs for members of the County Emergency Management Program Committee.
  2. Under the direction of the Manager, Emergency Management, design, recommend, market, initiate and evaluate an emergency preparedness public education program, including the preparation and dissemination of emergency preparedness information for both adults and school-aged children.
  3. Under the direction of the Manager, Emergency Management, customize and deliver Basic Emergency Management certification training and other training as required to County management staff, and to other staff in positions that may be involved in emergency response, including staff of partner agencies.
  4. Under the direction of the Manager, Emergency Management, develop and deliver annual public awareness campaign(s) related to 911 issues such as VoIP, cell phone service, civic addressing, analog phones, etc.
  5. Update and maintain creative presentation of the Emergency Management area of the County of Simcoe website and social media sites.
  6. Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of educational budgets, ensuring expenditures are within assigned authority and approved limits.
  7. Assist with special projects as required.
  8. Develop and maintain effective relationships with the general public, other County departments, municipalities, and public organizations. Maintain a work environment that promotes staff participation and teamwork.
  9. Prepare and present written reports as required.
  10. Participate in County committees as required.
  11. Maintain the County Emergency Operations Centres in working order.
  12. Maintain basic updates to the County Emergency Response Plan.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
  14. Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
  15. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

  1. Strong knowledge of public education programming achieved through the completion of a Bachelor of Education degree or a degree or diploma in Business Administration – Marketing. Must be knowledgeable of current child and adult education principles. Other post-secondary education may be considered if combined with appropriate experience.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  3. Strong planning and project management skills.
  4. Excellent organizational and time management skills with an ability to learn and operate in a fast paced, multi-functional environment where priorities change regularly.
  5. Must be a self-starter and able to complete assigned tasks without supervision.
  6. Excellent word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications skills, in particular Microsoft applications.
  7. Fluency in French would be considered an asset.
  8. Knowledge of emergency planning standards would be considered an asset.
  9. Knowledge of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act would be considered an asset.
  10. Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle. Some travel is required using personal vehicle.
  11. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required.

EXPERIENCE

  1. At least two (2) years of relevant experience in educational programming, corporate training, formal teaching, or equivalent.
  2. Experience in dealing with the public and various age groups, and with teaching/training adults and/or school-aged children.
  3. Knowledge and competency to work with personal computers in a networked environment.
  4. Demonstrated ability to learn the use of software applications such as Windows, Outlook, and any other products within the training regime provided by the Employer.

EFFORT

Ability to work within the following conditions:

  1. Walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting or carrying, climbing and/or pulling of light weights.
  2. With numerous interruptions in a busy environment, and management of multiple priorities with specific deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in an office environment. Some travel within Simcoe County to conduct information and training sessions.

Salary Grade: $31.15 - $36.64

Union: CUPE 5820.01
