STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Summary of Job Classification:
Provides professional verbatim reporting and transcribing for court proceedings, hearings, and conferences. Employees in this classification have not obtained their Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential functions listed below satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Frequency and percentage of time may vary based on assignment.

  1. Produces an accurate rendering of the verbatim court record utilizing stenographic reporting and transcription of court proceedings. Reviews, formats, and proofreads transcripts and provides real-time translation for judges. Maintains file(s) and records/logs of notes and uses notes to fulfill transcripts requests.
  2. Prepares cost estimates for transcript requests. Bills and invoices for transcript costs and maintains an accurate log of all transcript requests.
  3. Prepares required reports and documentation pursuant to Chief Justice Directive 05-03 and local policies and procedures.
  4. Communicates with court staff regarding court proceedings and communicates with attorneys and clients who are ordering transcripts of said proceedings.
  5. Maintains reporting equipment. Troubleshoots and/or obtains technical support to resolve equipment-related issues as needed.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Equivalency:
Associate's degree or 2 years of college.
OR
Additional relevant work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.

Work Related Experience:
Less than 1 year of related experience.

Licenses and Certifications:
None.

Physical Effort Requirements:
Medium Work - Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Work Environment:
Good - Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.

Work Location:
Office or similar indoor environment.

Exposures:
Individuals who are hostile or irate; individuals with known violent backgrounds.
