User Experience as a discipline is a key part of Volvo Cars strategy and a newly formed UX organization is helping gather insights about our users and redefine and elevate the users’ experience of Volvo's products and services.
This role, based in Mahwah, NJ, is part of a small, dynamic local market team, where you'll take on a broad range of responsibilities. As a Lead UX Designer, you will act as a liaison to global teams, ensuring alignment on technical solutions and advocating for seamless user experiences across digital products (websites, mobile apps, enterprise systems, and occasionally the car UX). You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on design execution and an entrepreneurial mindset. You'll work with existing design systems while helping to shape and define new ones, as well as define processes and ways of working. The role requires excellent and confident communication skills, thriving in ambiguity, adapting to change quickly, and maintaining close relationships with business stakeholders while ensuring cohesive global experiences.

• You possess a strong strategic, leadership, and entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to effectively manage your time and priorities independently.
• Hands-on and proficient in creating well-organized, detail-oriented Figma designs that result in flawless, developer-ready deliverables.
• Experience in designing for a consumer-focused tech company or agency, so you know what it takes to craft elegant, consumer-facing experiences end-to-end.
• You have demonstrable experience and domain knowledge of working with web platforms and mobile applications in general.
• You are a versatile designer who uses a wide range of skills—product, interaction and visual design — to ensure you deliver delightful experiences to our customers.
• You have enough skills to bring design to life through prototyping, scenarios or other methods.
• You have experience collaborating across time zones with UX designers, researchers, analysts, developers, and product teams, both asynchronously and synchronously, to deliver complex omnichannel digital products within a world-class product organization.
• You’re an effective communicator and story-teller - your work inspires teams towards action and empathy for the user, and your presentations and facilitation skills influence teams.
• You are a good collaborator and advocate for the UX discipline - you have experience working with stakeholders from marketing to engineering and thrive in building relationships.
• You are a self-motivated and proactive individual, capable of thinking independently and solving complex problems. You excel at navigating intricate global organizations, driving positive outcomes that contribute to significant business impact.
• You have a people-focused design mentality, constantly looking to hone your design instinct through user feedback, whether that’s hands-on user research or a quantitative A/B test.
