Position Description:
As a Strategic Communications Content Specialist for AFWERX, you will be responsible for shaping and executing content strategies that align with AFWERX goals and Director priorities. You will collaborate with leadership, subject matter experts, small businesses, and other stakeholders to ensure clear, engaging, and consistent communication across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with expertise in crafting compelling narratives, writing technical content, and producing high-quality marketing and communication materials.
Duties:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive content strategy aligned with AFWERX goals and audience needs.
- Lead and support the creation of a content calendar to ensure a steady flow of high-quality content.
- Establish and maintain guidelines and best practices for content creation to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Research and write press releases, articles, website content, and infographics that communicate AFWERX’s mission and impact.
- Translate complex technical information into clear and engaging narratives while ensuring security and accuracy.
- Design and develop creative communication materials, including presentations, briefings, and basic graphics for internal and external audiences.
- Copyedit a variety of written materials, ensuring clarity, consistency, and compliance with Department of the Air Force style guidelines and OPSEC requirements.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, military personnel, and external stakeholders to gather accurate information for communication materials.
- Tailor content for specific target audiences to effectively convey AFWERX’s value and mission.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to enhance content strategies.
- Participate in discussions and meetings to inform communication strategies and ensure alignment with AFWERX priorities.
- Travel as required to support communication initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in communications, content development, or related fields, preferably within a government or military context.
- Writing & Editing: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in both long-form content and presentation materials.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to critically assess content for clarity, accuracy, and security compliance.
- Digital Proficiency: Experience with Google Workspace and other digital communication tools.
- Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Autonomy: Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a remote organization.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel as needed to support AFWERX initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic photography skills.
- Experience working with government or defense-related organizations.
- Strong project management skills and experience coordinating large-scale content initiatives.
Work Environment & Conditions:
- Remote Position: Fully remote role requiring a professional home workspace.
- Standard Work Hours: Monday–Friday business hours, with flexibility to meet mission demands.
- Travel: Occasional travel required to support communication efforts.
Other Essential Functions:
- Must maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Must demonstrate the ability to effectively tailor messages to different audiences.
- Must ensure consistency in branding and messaging across all communication products.
