WFMY News 2, TEGNA’s CBS affiliate in Greensboro, NC is looking for an outstanding leader. The role of Morning Executive Producer will be filled by a passionate, experienced journalist who’s great at managing people and growing talent. This person will be driven to provide the very best news coverage possible across all platforms daily, ensuring our content reflects the diverse communities we represent. They will also assist with covering breaking news and communication, and will be able to produce and booth a newscast when needed. This role is responsible for leading daily editorial conversations, serving as a leader to our team, building schedules, and coordinating with our desk, digital team, and other leaders in the newsroom daily. This critical team member is also a show doctor who helps our producers, anchors, and reporters elevate their newscasts on a daily basis. The ideal candidate has a track record of leading One Content teams to create relevant, meaningful, and compelling newscasts, teaching direct reports of various experience levels, and thinking strategically about multiple projects to meet the station's goals. This person has strong leadership skills, a commitment to covering breaking news and providing context and depth, can make quick editorial decisions, and has a willingness to push a team to think creatively daily. This person is also a great communicator who is cool under pressure. You will work collaboratively with other newsroom managers and teams to create innovative content for all platforms.


Responsibilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, related field and/or news leadership experience
  2. Minimum 3 years newsroom experience
  3. Minimum 1 year experience managing people
  4. Strong editorial decision-making skills
  5. Knowledge of all FCC broadcast regulations
  6. Passion for journalism
  7. Track record of integrity and ethical decision making
  8. Ability to grow journalists and foster a creative and positive newsroom environment
  9. Ability to lead coverage of live, breaking news situations and changing events
  10. Ability to build and booth newscasts when necessary
  11. Ability to proof rundowns daily for any and all errors, including facts, chyrons, and graphics
  12. Strong planning, writing, and organizational skills

Requirements:

  5. You will work collaboratively with other newsroom managers and teams to create innovative content for all platforms
  6. Manage and direct others with clear communication, able to make decisions under pressure
  7. Lead in a professional and empathetic manner
  8. Lead daily editorial meetings, help determine coverage plans and content distribution across newscasts and online
  9. Work with a team of producers, anchors, and reporters to elevate newscasts and produce meaningful content targeted to our audience
  10. Oversee the daily editorial process
  11. Oversee the on-air execution of newscasts
  12. Proof rundowns daily for any and all errors, including facts, chyrons, and graphics
  13. Train, develop, and coach the newsroom team with a focus on mentoring content creators across all platforms to elevate storytelling
  14. Collaborate with the news director to execute long-term newsroom strategy
  15. Recruit great journalists
  16. Support all coordination aspects of coverage, from breaking news to enterprise story production and news specials
  17. Ensure news coverage meets the WFMY brand, company policies, industry codes, FCC rules, and station values
  18. Assist with the direction of newsroom operations, review reporter scripts and manage schedules
  19. Work weekend, on-call rotation with other news managers
