Reports to the Supervisor of Mechanical Design. Produce and check CAD drawings of design items, parts, and components of complex equipment, assemblies, steel frames, connections, piping, and pressure parts using knowledge of basic engineering principles, and current manufacturing or fabrication methods and procedures. Provide general directions to designers and drafters as well as outsourced work products. Review drawings in process, checking for integrity of design, and cost effectiveness, considering fabrication and construction requirements. Communicate with fabricators, vendors, construction personnel and other internal or external groups as required.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Prepare 2D drawings and 3D models for new and edited designs.
  • Prepare accurate and cost-effective designs, produce arrangements, layouts, and studies adhering to company/industry standards and practices.
  • Ensure drawings, bill of materials, and designs, meet applicable codes, standards, ISO instructions, and customer's specifications.
  • Monitor the work product of vendors, including schedule, budget, scope requirements, technical review, and deliverables.
  • Review and analyze customer specifications and documents to ensure design compliance.
  • Participate in meetings with customers engineering consultants or other company affiliated units.
  • Assume lead mechanical role in proposal/contract design and develop drawings in response to customer requests.
  • Track hours to provide feedback to the team and manager on expenditures per project.
  • Meet periodically with managers and other design leads to discuss team successes and failures, new design concepts, productivity enhancements, and the need for additional resources.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to less experienced members of the group.

Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Navisworks experience (including model integration, clash checks, etc.) a must
  • AutoCAD 2D and 3D experience, Plant 3D experience (including spec generation, modeling, isometric generation, customer parts drawings, BOMs, etc.)
  • AutoCAD Inventor and Vault experience
  • Proven experience with piping, ductwork, pressure part, or equivalent design (overall layout and details)
  • Proven experience generating piping layouts, pipe isometric drawings, and pipe support details.
  • Excellent analytical and computer skills
  • Must be organized and able to work under pressure to meet
  • Must be able to travel (domestic and international) when required
