The San Francisco Standard
The Standard is expanding our data journalism with a new position for a creative reporter focused on telling approachable stories visually.
We are looking for a proactive, innovative thinker who can create visual stories and interactive features. You will be on our enterprise team, working alongside other data and investigative reporters. The top candidate will excel at working independently and as part of a team, and at juggling stories across varied timelines, from quick turns to slow burns.
You will develop your own ideas for data-driven stories, as well as work with other reporters and editors to develop the graphic components of our newsroom's most ambitious projects.
You should be comfortable gathering and handling data to produce a variety of visualizations, and have an eye for detail to make sure the information is expressed correctly and effectively. You should be experienced with off-the-shelf graphics solutions such as Datawrapper, Flourish and Mapbox, and able to train other reporters and editors in their use and best practices.
Preferred qualifications:
Please submit your resume and cover letter, along with clips or links to at least three projects you've published with a brief description of your role and any challenges you overcame, as well as a brief memo with at least three ideas of stories you would want to pursue at The Standard.
We are an in-person newsroom; this is not a remote role.
The pay range for this role is $90,000-135,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate.
