THE OPPORTUNITY: Digital Design Director

REPORTS TO: Creative Director

Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA with an office in New York, NY, Birdy Grey supports hybrid work for eligible roles. This role requires traveling to our DTLA office once a month. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. #LI-Hybrid

Birdy Grey is looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking Digital Design Director to lead and design alongside our team, elevating our brand visuals across the board. From paid ads and brand marketing to web assets and packaging, you'll ensure that every visual is sharp, fresh, and aligned with our brand. You'll work alongside our cross-functional teams, developing engaging designs while inspiring and mentoring the design team.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and execute design initiatives across digital, print, and packaging, ensuring brand consistency and visual excellence, while also actively designing alongside the team to bring ideas to life and lead by example.
  • Mentor and manage a team of designers, providing visual direction, feedback, and support to foster growth, innovation, and a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
  • Act as the final approver for all digital design projects, ensuring that deliverables align with our brand vision and high-quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the ad team to create high-performing ad creatives, leveraging data-driven insights to iterate on concepts and optimize campaigns.
  • Think strategically about how different assets work together and how to leverage them effectively across various platforms.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director to conceptualize assets for campaigns, email marketing, paid media, website, and social channels.
  • Maintain an organized design workflow to ensure timely, within-scope project completion.
  • Develop and maintain scalable design systems and templates to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
  • Oversee high-volume creative output while collaborating cross-functionally to meet deadlines and scale efficiently.
  • Lead the evolution of the brand, driving innovation while maintaining a cohesive visual identity.
  • Integrate data and performance metrics into the creative process to continuously refine and optimize designs.
  • Manage external vendors and resources as needed to ensure quality, timely production of design materials.

EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:

  • 7+ years of design experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within a fast-paced e-commerce or fashion environment.
  • Extensive experience creating ads and working with data-driven brands.
  • Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams, including external partners.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing branding, campaign development, and multi-channel design expertise.
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and Figma.
  • In-depth knowledge of a mobile-first approach, digital design principles, UI/UX best practices, and responsive design.
  • Experience in both print and digital design, including packaging, marketing collateral, and web assets.
  • Strong skills in typography, layout, and color theory.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organized with exceptional project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience in DTC apparel, especially womenswear and/or menswear.
  • Familiarity with motion design, animation, or video editing.
  • Experience with project management tools like Asana.
  • Startup or high-growth brand experience.
  • Experience working with developers on site design and UX optimization.

$100,000 - $135,000 USD
