Job Description
The Atlantic is seeking an experienced full-time copy editor to join the newsroom. This person will copy edit articles ranging from daily coverage to longer-term features and projects, and will also copy edit social-media posts and other editorial material. This person may also have some fact-checking responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a sharp eye for detail, a fine ear for language, a respect for individual authors’ writing styles, and an exceptional grasp of grammar, accepted usage, punctuation, and spelling. Additionally, a candidate should be able to prioritize when juggling multiple assignments, and adhere to high standards under tight deadlines.
The ideal candidate has at least three years’ professional experience, comfort working in a fast-paced environment, and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style. This person will also combine obsessiveness with nimbleness, collegiality, and a sense of humor.
This person will likely work a Tuesday–Saturday schedule. The role will at times also include night, early-morning, or other weekend work.
Salary minimum: $69,000; Salary maximum: $80,000
