Communications Publications Writer-Editor (HEOa)

POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Dean of the Calandra Italian American Institute (based in Manhattan), the Communications Publications Writer-Editor will perform the following duties:

  • Write media advisories targeting the Italian American community as well as the CUNY community and distribute them through media platforms accordingly;

  • Research and write items in a variety of formats for publications in print, web sites, and presentations;

  • Adhere to journalistic standards for fact-finding, research, verification, and style;

  • Provide communication support to staff when needed;

  • Work both independently and collaboratively with the Institute’s staff;

  • Research, identify, and write grants for specific projects for the Institute;

  • Assist in the coordination of fundraising for the various projects as needed;

  • Assist in developing content that highlights the Institute’s annual conference, symposiums, and any other event;

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience writing/editing published works required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with WordPress, Mailchimp, Constant Contact and project management platforms;

  • Experience working with social and new media, web and print;

  • Spoken and written fluency in Italian and knowledge of the Italian American Community;

  • Proficiency with Microsoft and OS office suites; savvy navigating interfaces of content management systems;

  • Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills;

  • Must be willing to work in Manhattan, the location of the Calandra Institute.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Writes and prepares written material on College issues and events and provides professional support to College communications programs.

  • Researches and writes items in a variety of formats for publication in print, web sites, and presentations;

  • Participates in planning communications projects and contributes to decisions on content and style;

  • May assume editorial responsibility for communications projects; reviews and edits the work of others;

  • May coordinate production of written materials;

  • Adheres to journalistic standards for fact-finding, research, verification, and style;

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$54,313-$56,447 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
