TITLE: ELEMENTARY MUSIC TEACHER
REPORTS TO: Principal/Fine Arts Coordinator
JOB GOAL: To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and maturation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Kentucky Teacher Certificate
- Teacher Certificate or Statement of Eligibility for Music K - 12
- Past experience and success in elementary music is preferred but not required for consideration. This position involves teaching K-5 music classes and maintaining co-curricular aspects of the music program.
SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS:
- Teaches skills in music understanding/appreciation in alignment with the Kentucky Visual and Performing Arts Standards
- Plans/executes a balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
- Encourages students to develop individual skills in vocal and instrumental music
- Maintains musical instruments and equipment
- Communicates with parents and school staff regarding individual student progress as needed
- Teaches school choir and instrumental ensemble
- Collaborates with fine arts staff and school staff
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Basic computer skills including use of google, email, and websites.
- Subject matter in the area of assignments.
- Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities
- Curriculum, instruction and assessment
- Short and long-range planning techniques applicable to area of specialty
- Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities
- Oral and written communication skills
- Pedagogy in the area of certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
- Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the locations provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Diagnoses the learning abilities of students and evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
- Maintains complete and accurate records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms through appropriate parent teacher conferences.
- Individually and cooperatively with other teachers, supervises pupils in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on assigned committees.
- Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Accepts a shared responsibility for co-curricular activities.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
- Provides for his/her own professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Represents the school in the community effectively and in a positive manner.
- Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
- Meets the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.
- Abides by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
- Adheres to the requirements of any District or school employee handbook, Owensboro Board of Education policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Performs all other functions deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor that are reasonable and are covered by local board policy or law.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor, environmentally controlled. Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones, personal interruptions, background noises. This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Instructional salary schedule based on rank and experience
- Certified employee with year-to-year contract until continuing contract is granted
