The Center for AI Safety (CAIS) is a leading research and advocacy organization on a mission to reduce societal-scale risks from AI. We tackle the toughest AI issues with a mix of technical and policy solutions, working with our sister organization, the CAIS Action Fund.
As part of our mission, we are building a network of skilled contributing writers to support our growing content needs. We are looking for journalists who can help to communicate AI safety research, policy developments, and industry trends to a broad audience.
Journalist & News Opportunities:
- Writing and curating the AI Safety Newsletter, which covers developments in AI safety for a general audience.
- Covering news and policy developments related to AI and writing explainer articles for a forthcoming new online platform dedicated to high-quality journalism and analysis on AI’s impacts on national security, politics, and the economy.
- Excel at translating complex AI and policy topics into engaging, accessible narratives for diverse audiences.
- Are passionate about deep research and uphold rigorous fact-checking standards, even in a fast-paced environment.
- Appreciate a structured editorial process and welcome constructive feedback, valuing the role of journalism in shaping informed public discourse.
This is a contract-based role with an hourly rate of $30-$50, depending on expertise, project complexity, and level of commitment. Compensation may vary based on factors such as subject matter expertise, writing experience, and the scope of individual projects.
We are actively building a pool of contributing writers and encourage applicants with expertise in journalism covering AI or technology, policy analysis, or science communication to apply. Writers may be engaged on a per-project basis, depending on expertise and content needs.
