Delivery Technology is responsible for making sure every byte of video gets delivered to our millions of customers globally, at the highest quality possible. We are growing rapidly and looking for talented Engineers who are up for one of the biggest challenges in the video streaming business: live-streaming content at high quality to millions of users concurrently.
As a Software Development Engineer on our team, you will define the technical architecture and build systems that serve billions of requests per day with high availability and low operational overhead. Successful candidates have experience building highly distributed mission-critical systems, are self-directed, and love to work on highly challenging and complex problems. You are a passionate coder who values simplicity of implementation, leading to highly maintainable code that is well documented and easy to follow. Experience working with Content Delivery Networks and knowledge of streaming technologies and networking concepts such as DNS is preferred.
Key Job Responsibilities
Ownership: Lead projects to disambiguate and solve real-world problems at a global scale, and own end-to-end production systems and their long-term architecture. You will be a leader on an agile team, independently drive challenging projects and milestones to completion, and grow and mentor other engineers. You will influence the direction of our technology impacting all Prime Video customers on thousands of device types worldwide.
Nature of Work: Design flexible and scalable solutions to real-world customer challenges, work on complex engineering problems in large-scale computing utilizing skills in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming. You will have a solid support network of Senior and Principal Engineers that help you be successful in the day-to-day and in the long-term.

Mentoring: Collaborate with Principal and Senior Engineers with deep knowledge in the Playback and Delivery technology domains. You will have the opportunity to expand your horizons, mentoring engineers across the organization and expanding your influence as a technical leader. Customers love Prime Video for the wide selection of media titles and the value for money it offers. We make it easy, convenient & secure to deliver on-demand and live media content to Amazon customers. To make this all happen, we own and build mission-critical services with security and low latency at its core. Our engineers work on systems that form the underpinnings of all media delivery in Amazon. We own the complex and challenging action of delivering every fragment of video that Prime Video streams to our customers at the highest possible quality. We do everything that enables the Watch Now button to deliver a smooth playback experience to over 100 million customers across a variety of devices and content types.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
- Experience in mentoring or leading more junior engineers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
