Description of Job
The Instructional Designer will provide leadership and expertise in the design and implementation of face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses. This position works closely with faculty and instructors across the institution in incorporating evidence-based practices into their course design and delivery. The Instructional Designer supports faculty and instructors in course and curriculum design as well as class organization, assessments, teaching methods, active learning strategies, and learning technologies.

Here are some of the responsibilities of this role:
  • Consult with faculty and instructors from a variety of disciplines on teaching and learning topics to promote and support effective teaching practices.
  • Provide expertise on and review of course design, teaching strategies, active learning, assessment, accessibility, Universal Design for Learning, inclusion, educational technology, and other evidence-based teaching topics.
  • Design and deliver workshops and other professional development opportunities for educators on a range of evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Support educators in improving curriculum, course design, teaching strategies, assessment design, and integration of technology to support student learning through individual and group learning opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Required
  • Master's degree, or higher, in Instructional Design, Higher Education, or related field from an accredited college or university, or a Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience.
  • Two (2) years of relevant instructional design experience with online and face-to-face teaching.
  • Two (2) years of experience using Desire2Learn (D2L) and/or other Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Experience developing courses and/or providing consultation to higher education faculty and instructors.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices and effective use of technology.
  • Strong consultation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Preferred
  • Experience teaching within a higher education context.
  • Experience working with a diverse faculty and student population.
  • Experience designing online courses in higher education.
  • Experience using Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA with course content.
  • Proven experience working collaboratively with faculty and instructors to design and develop courses.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Knowledge of educational copyright laws.
  • Knowledge of current trends in community college education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team as well as independently and adapt in a fast-paced, highly productive environment.
  • Familiarity with resources for students, faculty, and instructors with disabilities such as JAWS, NVDA, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Kurzweil, and others.
  • Quality Matters certification to promote quality assurance for online and hybrid courses.
