The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) is accepting applications for a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Superintendent of NOLA-PS. This individual will lead NOLA-PS in its mission to provide an equitable and high-quality education to every student in New Orleans, while addressing disparities and fostering excellence in all areas of academic achievement. The Superintendent must demonstrate a deep commitment to ensuring that all students, particularly those from historically underserved communities, have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

NOLA-PS is a unique and diverse school district that has undergone significant transformation in the past two decades. The Superintendent carries out administrative functions by following the policies adopted by the Board; executes all decisions made by the Board concerning the operation of the school system; and serves as the executive officer of the school district and secretary to the Board. The seven-member Board, the Superintendent, and the central office staff are responsible for setting student, program, and operational performance standards. As the nation’s first district-wide charter school system, the district offers a blend of charter schools, each with varying levels of autonomy, and a direct-run school. NOLA-PS serves as an authorizer for public charter schools operating in Orleans Parish. The Superintendent is responsible for setting and implementing the CSAF that fosters student achievement while respecting each charter organization’s school-based decision-making autonomy. The Superintendent is also responsible for academic and organizational performance at district-run schools. This role is an extraordinary opportunity to lead a vibrant, diverse, and resilient school district in one of the most culturally rich cities in the United States. The Superintendent shall be asked to set a vision and implement the priorities set by the Board as seen in its vision statement, NOLA-PS Evolve Strategic Plan, Five-Year Portfolio Plan, and Portrait of a Graduate. The individual selected as Superintendent must master the operational aspects of managing the NOLA-PS central office, authorize and hold accountable charter organizations for the administration of schools, directly running schools, and engaging the community in sharing the responsibility for achieving our aspirational goals and objectives. We are seeking a superintendent with remarkable skills and experiences for our unique portfolio of schools, who will deliver on our promise to create great citizens. Bachelor’s and master’s degrees At least five years of leadership experience in education, including experience in senior administrative or superintendent-level roles Experience as a leader in an urban district or a district of similar size, scope, and demographics, with a focus on academic improvement and equity Demonstrated leadership experience supported by measurable accomplishments that reflect growing levels of achievement for all students Knowledge of district governance, finance, and strategic planning. Demonstrated ability to manage complex relationships within a large, decentralized system Demonstrated understanding of, experience with, and support for charter schools Familiarity with the unique cultural, political, and historical aspects of New Orleans community and its school district Applicants must meet the minimum requirements in BESE Bulletin 746 and La. R.S. 17:54(B)(2)(a) Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in the field of education Experience as a superintendent Experience as a teacher and building-level leader/or district administrator with evidence of effective instructional leadership Experience as a charter school leader or administrator with evidence of effective leadership supported by measurable accomplishments in school operations and student success Experience in a district or organization with a similar charter-district hybrid structure. Innovative leadership skills with experience serving in a large, complex organization with five (5) or more years of experience as an executive-level leader (experience serving PreK-12 education systems desired)
