ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Film/TV department at Solano Community College is a dynamic hub for creativity and professional training, offering students a comprehensive education in film and television production. The program is designed to equip aspiring filmmakers and content creators with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving media industry. Students benefit from a diverse curriculum that includes lecture courses on mass media and U.S. culture in TV and film, as well as courses in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and media production.
Faculty members bring a wealth of professional experience to the classroom, ensuring that instruction is both relevant and inspiring. The department emphasizes hands-on learning, encouraging students to collaborate on projects that range from short films to broadcast productions, providing them with real-world experience and a portfolio of work by graduation.
At the heart of the Film/TV department is its state-of-the-art studio and production facilities. The department boasts a fully equipped recording studio and control room for live broadcasting with a TriCaster audio/video production system, professional-grade lighting grids, multiple studio and virtual sets, green screen capabilities, and high-definition cameras that mirror industry standards.
Editing labs feature cutting-edge software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, allowing students to master pre and post-production techniques. Additional resources include an array of specialized equipment such as drones, Steadicams, and 4K cameras. This robust technological infrastructure, paired with expert guidance from faculty, ensures that students graduate with the technical expertise and creative confidence needed to excel in the competitive fields of film and television.
DESCRIPTION:
The Film/TV Professor will teach a range of courses in film and television production, theory, and criticism, with a commitment to exploring the intersections of media and society. The ideal candidate will have expertise in diverse film theories, such as feminist film theory, and studies of systemic racism and representation in TV and film. This role requires a deep understanding of how film and television shape and are shaped by cultural, political, and historical contexts.? Further, the professor will guide students in the application of technical and creative skills in the production of video content in our state-of-the art studio.? The professor will create an inclusive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and empowers students to engage with media as both creators and consumers.

Teaching and Course Development:
Teaching assignments may include evening hours and off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, and participation in student outreach and recruiting as part of the Division and College-wide services.
We anticipate the first round of interviews to be conducted in-person the week of March 31st. Second round interviews are tentatively set for early April. All dates are subject to change.

WORK ENVIROMENT:
The recommended candidate(s) will work in a small office or larger room with multiple people, in a primarily sedentary nature, either sitting or standing. This role will require significant technology use, including long periods of looking at technology screens and entering information using a keyboard and/or mouse. Interruptions are likely in large room settings and in small office settings. Frequent use of online meetings using Zoom or Microsoft Teams with webcam on. Phone and email will be required to communicate with all campus communities. - Address issues of systemic racism, gender inequality, and other forms of oppression as they appear in film and television.
- Use hands-on projects and industry-standard tools to teach production and storytelling techniques.
- Stay current with industry trends and integrate emerging technologies and practices into course content.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that values diverse perspectives.
- Mentor and advise students on academic, career, and personal development.
- Encourage critical thinking and media literacy, empowering students to challenge stereotypes and inequities in media.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and refine the Film/TV program's curriculum.
- Participate in outreach efforts to promote the program and recruit a diverse student body.
- Engage with the community through events, screenings, and partnerships to connect students with local opportunities.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to deepen expertise in film and television theory and practice.
- Serve on college committees and contribute to departmental initiatives, such as program reviews and student showcases.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop, review, and maintain currency of curriculum for courses in collaboration with other instructors as well as the articulation officer.
- Provide instruction in accordance with established program course outlines of record; inform/advise students about program requirements; evaluate and provide timely verbal and written assessments of student?performance; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed reports and required documents; and maintain required student attendance, scholastic records, and other related materials.
- Work in collaboration with other full-time instructors in coordinating curriculum and mentoring adjunct faculty in these courses.
- Participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLO) and Program Level Outcomes (PLO).
- Actively participate in department/school meetings and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies; participate in college governance and decision-making.
- Participate in college-wide committee work and collegial governance.
- Maintain current knowledge and skills in Chemistry.
- Maintain effective communication with peers, staff, students, and administrators.
- Teaching assignments may include evening and weekend hours, either in-person or online, as well as off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College and School policies.
