Anticipated Hiring Range:$205,020 - $209,508 annually (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)

THE DEPARTMENT:
The University Library is an integral part of Cal Poly Pomona, providing essential resources and services that support the academic mission of the University. The Library fosters a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive culture, promoting student success, equity, social justice, and lifelong learning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functional Oversight/Management

  • Provide guidance and oversight of faculty-led assessment efforts and ensure appropriate training and professional development opportunities for faculty engaged in this work.
  • Assess the quality and use of special collections.
  • Oversee and manage the library budget.
  • Review contracts, faculty leave requests, assigned time requests, stipend requests, department initiatives, and other activities that may affect the library budgets.
  • Provide budget staff with professional development and training on budget-related topics.
  • Ensure fiscal stability and effective allocation and oversight processes.
  • Effectively steward the library’s resources.

Student Success

  • Find innovative ways to offer high-quality academic and curricular resources for undergraduate and graduate programs and students.
  • Further grow the Affordable Learning Initiative (ALI) - a program designed to provide access to affordable educational content/resources for our students.
  • Integrate advances in information technology to support academic programs and student services.
  • Provide quality, affordable, and innovative educational content and learning spaces crucial to student academic success and timely graduation.
  • Ensure the Library delivers thoughtful and effective services to the campus community, anticipating partner/stakeholder needs and working collaboratively.
  • Encourage partnerships across the University and in the community, as librarians contribute as faculty to the contemporary learning environment.

University/Community Partnerships and Fundraising

  • Partner with Advancement and the Provost to identify prospective donors, raise private funds, and establish mutually beneficial relationships with donors, alumni/ae, supporters, and community partners.
  • Work collaboratively with University Advancement and Community engagement staff to establish community partnerships to pursue external funding opportunities, and to develop and maintain engaged fundraising and advisory councils.
  • Establish strong working relationships and develop consensus with internal and external partners.

Leadership/Management

  • Provide vision and leadership to fulfill the mission and vision of the Library and the University.
  • Promote professionalism, a service orientation, and inclusive shared governance.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend Library faculty for retention, promotion, and tenure (RTP), leaves, and other professional opportunities.
  • Oversee all faculty and staff recruitment and hiring in the library.
  • Establish a process to ensure that annual evaluations are provided to all employees according to university policy.
  • Maintain a cohesive, energetic, service-oriented environment for a diverse workforce and student population.
  • Provide opportunities for the professional development of faculty and staff.
  • Serve as HEERA manager to the Associate Dean of the Library, Assistant to the Dean, and the Budget Analyst.

Strategic Planning

  • Lead the Library in strategic planning, assessment for quality improvement, and reaccreditation efforts in departments and colleges.
  • Guide the Library to maximize utilization of classrooms within the library to create an environment that ensures student learning outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively to recommend, create, communicate, and implement long and short-term strategic planning.
  • Lead implementation of appropriate emerging trends in higher education and in university libraries.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree - ALA (American Library Association) accredited master’s degree or accredited international equivalent.
  • Driver License, Valid and in State Required.
  • 5 years of progressive higher education administrative and/or leadership experience in higher education libraries or in an academic setting.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in higher education.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience making effective decisions with sound analytical ability, good judgement, and strong operational focus.
  • Ability to apply forward-thinking and creative thought with high ethical standards to develop strategic vision.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and evidence of past initiatives implemented at an academic or research library.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Evidence of the ability to meet the professional requirements of a tenured position through research, librarianship, and service.
  • Doctorate degree in related field.
  • Strong management skills by practicing patience and empathy in conflict resolution, fostering teamwork, and listening to understand.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with library colleagues and the campus community.
