Job Summary

Reports to: Artist, General Manager, Director of Projects

Expected Compensation: $60,000-$80,000 annually; actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by applicable law

Fast-paced artist's studio in Brooklyn seeks an organized, energetic, and kind Studio Assistant with motivation to learn and grow. The Studio Assistant will provide operational, administrative, and project management support to the Artist, General Manager, and Director of Projects. This role is designed to introduce a qualified individual to the many facets of the studio's operations and projects, and to provide opportunity for the Studio Assistant to shape the role over time based on their unique interests and competencies. The ideal candidate must be committed to honing skills through hands-on experience that could develop into a management-level position. Candidate must be dedicated, honest, collaborative, analytical, self-motivated, generous, and self-aware, with the capacity to anticipate contingencies and work accordingly. The ability to adapt to new information and change course rapidly, sensibly, and pleasantly is required. A sense of humor is welcome.

Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Facilitate the work of independent contractors and serve as the communication hub between multiple parties working in tandem on tight timelines
  • Support Director of Projects in archiving and maintaining project documentation
  • Engage in project-related research, including text research, proofreading, and copyediting, and work with independent contractors to execute these jobs
  • Assist in coordinating international and domestic travel for studio projects
Administration
  • Work closely with General Manager to maintain and optimize the studio's centralized systems of organization and standard operating procedures
  • Participate in the planning and development of studio best-practices
  • Assist with financial management in concert with General Manager and Bookkeeper, including processing accounts payables and outgoing project-related invoices
  • Help proofread consistently, maintain and update Artist's calendar, and respond to incoming requests
  • Complete and delegate assorted small but necessary tasks and action items in support of Artist, General Manager, Director of Projects and others on an as-needed basis
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, with advanced degree preferred
  • Two or more years of related experience, preference for experience in arts administration or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Google applications (especially Sheets and Docs), FileMaker or equivalent archival software; ability to learn new software easily

  • Extreme attention to organization, detail, accuracy, and professionalism
  • Familiarity with and/or curiosity about the work of Jenny Holzer
  • Exceptional listener, eager to take direction happily, and rely on and comply with feedback to foster growth

  • Innate ability to make work simple and straightforward
  • Inclination to work as part of a team, collegially and cordially, with a focus on the best interests of the artwork, Artist, and studio
