Architectural Specifications Writer

Role and Responsibilities:
Interpret the project design requirements and translate them into comprehensive specifications, detailing materials, methods, equipment, procedures, installation guidelines, and certification testing needed
Review drawings, documents, and other related materials to write and refine technical specifications
Ensure alignment with project requirements, institutional guidelines, technical specifications, relevant laws, regulations, and codes, and LGA's standards
Develop specifications that guide the procurement, installation, and assembly of building components
Participate in QA/QC reviews of project documentation
Coordinate specifications with Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows and specification writing software
Assist project leaders and architects with constructability analyses
Support project designers with material selection, system research, and product research as necessary
Provide technical guidance throughout design development and construction document phases
Collaborate project architects to review shop drawing and product substitutions
Coordinate and review consultant technical specifications to ensure alignment with LGA standards
Develop and maintain relationships with third-parties throughout all project phases
Incorporate integrated sustainable design principles into project design
Regularly review and update existing specifications to reflect industry standards and best practices
Contribute to the creation and continuous improvement of LGA documentation and best practices
Our Ideal Candidate: 3-7 years of experience in AEC industry
Minimum 3 years of experience editing or writing architectural specifications required
Degree in Architecture or related field advantageous
Expertise in specifications software programs such as SpecLink
Proficient in Bluebeam and in basic enterprise software (Microsoft Office Suite)
Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, construction methodologies, building systems, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
In-depth understanding of construction procedures, schedules, and project workflows
Strong knowledge of building codes and ability to research, interpret, and incorporate them into technical documents
