Summary
Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA), a private Christian institution located in West Palm Beach, Florida, seeks a Lecturer in Communication. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching communication courses, primarily Public Speaking and, depending on enrollment, might also include other courses in journalism or public relations. The Department of Communication, Journalism and Public Relations is located in the College of the Arts, which includes Cinema, Communication, Dance, Digital Media, Gaming, Graphic Design, Journalism, Music, Preparatory Department, Public Relations, Sports Broadcasting, Theatre, and Visual Art. Typical teaching load for this position is five courses each semester and will report to the Chair of the Department of Communication, Journalism and Public Relations. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.
Essential Functions
- Teach courses in accordance with assigned workload requirements in the area of personal expertise, with an emphasis on Public Speaking courses.
- Participate in university service; student recruitment, retention, and progression; and faculty development programs.
- Integrate Christian faith and pedagogy.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Required Qualifications
• An earned master’s degree in Communication or related field, with a minimum of 18 credit hours in communication.
• Record of successful teaching and service.
• Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills, as well as conflict resolution.
• Commitment to shared governance and consensus building within a university setting.
• Experience with and commitment to building community across and with programs, departments, and schools.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching communication at the university level.
• 3+ years of teaching experience at the university level.
