Your role and responsibilities
The Media Relations Leader is responsible for executing ABB's tier one and financial media relations to support divisions, business areas, and group communications in the United States. The individual will work with multiple stakeholders to manage concurrent media press initiatives, share expertise, and deliver strategic value for ABB in the U.S. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop and implement communication plans that protect and elevate ABB's reputation in this key market. Each day you will work with ABB subject matter experts to develop key messages and tell stories that help our key audiences understand what ABB does and the impact we make on customers, partners and communities where we do business. You will serve as a spokesperson for ABB with national media as well as media in key ABB cities in the U.S. The work model for the role is remote (#LI-Remote) with some expected business travel. Your role and responsibilities
The Media Relations Leader is responsible for executing ABB's tier one and financial media relations to support divisions, business areas, and group communications in the United States. The individual will work with multiple stakeholders to manage concurrent media press initiatives, share expertise, and deliver strategic value for ABB in the U.S. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop and implement communication plans that protect and elevate ABB's reputation in this key market. Each day you will work with ABB subject matter experts to develop key messages and tell stories that help our key audiences understand what ABB does and the impact we make on customers, partners and communities where we do business. You will serve as a spokesperson for ABB with national media as well as media in key ABB cities in the U.S. The work model for the role is remote (#LI-Remote) with some expected business travel. You will be mainly accountable for:
- Development and implementation of strategy on ABB's media relations to support divisions, business areas, and group communications in the United States.
- Ownership of all Tier 1 and financial media relations including mainstream media outlets in key cities where ABB has facilities, excluding trade publications.
- Developing meaningful relationships with key journalists, expand existing relationships. Experience with influencers and non-traditional media platforms.
- Planning, coordinating, and executing press conferences or media deskside briefings as warranted by the divisions, business areas, and group communications.
- Measuring the results of our media relations efforts and implement improvements as needed.
Qualifications for the role
- Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, PR, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
- Minimum of 10+ years' experience in media relations.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to copy-edit.
- Communicate strong media pitch angles that capture the interest of mainstream reporters across all platforms.
- Able to build professional relationships with members of the media.
- Create media briefing documents and prepare spokespeople.
- Manage media interviews in support of corporate spokespeople.
- Knowledge of media list platforms such as Cision and Meltwater.
- 12+ years' experience in media relations preferred.
- Ability to transform complex technical information into easily understood copy.
- Experience managing outside vendors, excellent at building relationships.
- Experience working with B2B companies, engineering, technology, sustainability or energy.
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
